The historical Mbala Region in Zambia

Mbala, a town in the most northern part of Zambia, is more off the beaten track. The town is near Lake Tanganyika and the Tanzanian border. Along the lake there are some extremely fancy resorts and there are all kinds of water activities and historical sites to see.

Beautiful lakes and falls

The lake is the start of the rift valley and therefore has a completely different climate than the rest of Zambia. Temperatures can be as much as 10 degrees warmer in a town like Mpulungu, which is located near the lake. Visit Mpulungu to see the lake, enjoy some water time, and see the big fish markets.

In Mbala town, which is a little higher in the mountains, there is the MotoMoto Museum which has a rich collection of Zambia’s history as well as that of the world-war 1, which is definitely worth a visit! The Kalambo Falls are also really worth a visit as they are beautiful, share a border with Tanzania, and are supposedly one of the places where human life started, based on excavations that were done around the falls. During the European summer months the climate is amazing in the northern part.

I personally loved the nature in Northern Province with its forests, mountains, immenseness and diversity.

Nature lover

I personally loved the nature in Northern Province with its forests, mountains, immenseness and diversity. However, if you have never been to an African country before, and want to experience rural life, Northern Province is more suitable for the experience to see something else and different, more rural Zambian living.
